“You in your small corner, and I in mine!” In today’s blog post I am singing to the crocuses. #alithemindfulgardener #springsunshine #plantportraits #springbulbs #crocus #garden #gardening #ofsimplethings #inspiredbyflowers #beautyyouseek #seeksimplicity
Just a little bit in love with Iris reticulata. Here are ‘Katharine Hodgkin’ (front) and ‘Aleda’ (behind). Today is the first day I have gardened with a single layer on. It feels so good! #alithemindfulgardener #irisreticulata #sunshine #springsunshine #garden #gardening #gardeningideas
So that we can admire the crazy orbit of the Hellebore’s inner circle, let’s turn the flower over completely and see it face up. From the outside in: neatly folded pockets of nectaries in green, fizzling cream stamens in various stages of excitement, and hooked carpels at the core. #flowerportrait #hellebore #colourpop #pinkpop #alithemindfulgardener #flowerstruck #flowerstructures #botany #everydaybotany #garden #gardening #springwatch #signsofspring #tostandandstare #peninpractice #olympusuk #flowerphotography #flowerphotos #macroflower #hardyperennials
Like with so many spring bulbs, you spend hours watching over them, singing to them, telling them little stories, begging them to open. Then just as your back is turned (you’ve put the kettle on, or just nipped to the loo), Boing! The most magnificent little flower has sprung open! What a handsome little flower it is. It seems designed to show off its three-dimensions, with three sets of petals each setting out along a different plane. Follow the link to my blog in my bio if you would like to read more about the bulb giving me most joy, including how to grow it, and my favourite varieties. #flowerphotography #flowerjoy #thissimplelife #springwatch #springbulbs #springfloweringbulbs #irisreticulata #dwarfiris #alithemindfulgardener #englishgardens #cottagegardenplants #easygardening #gardentips #mindfulmomentsphotography #mindfulmoments #peninpractice #botanicaltales #jeweledlight #gardenphotography #diaryofanintrovert
Gardening is an act of faith. Most of what you are doing is going to take a while to come to fruition. Whether it is sowing seeds, planting bulbs, taking a cutting, even pruning…you have to have faith that your actions are going to lead to something good. I took a little walk down our lane yesterday. I am truly grateful to the person who planted out a few little snowdrops half-way along our lane. They have naturalised, and spread a distance of about 10 metres along both sides of the road. I can only hope that the fifty ‘in the green’ snowdrops I planted two years ago will one day look like this. #gardenjoy #englishcountryside #countrylanes #snowdrops #snowdrop #signsofspring #springwatch #sharethelove #generosity #actsofkindness #actoffaith #thissimplelife #folkandstory #beautyyouseek #tostandandstare
Flowering Quince, Chaenomeles x superba ‘Crimson and Gold’, and if you swipe, the white Chaenomeles speciosa ‘Nivalis’. I love anything that flowers on bare branches. You might start to see the confetti blossom of Blackthorn in the hedgerows around now. Blossom is a gift. It pays to look closely. The flowers are simple: five petals; a host of anthers gathered around the stigma. Often the most gentle of fragrances. I am feeling spring.
